Day 14 – Monday, February 9, 2026
I had big plans to leave early, but it was only around 8:30 that I got to the saddle.
I could write a lot, but it should suffice to say it was a desert road, I would not recommend it for everyone. I had to keep my spirits high, sometimes it appeared the road would never end - you looked ahead and it led to infinity. (Once, riding towardd Szeged in my native Hungary, I had such an experience).
I was glad to meet a living creature - a large bunch of whateverrhenameis, growing onto the surface of the road. Another living creature was this eagle, it soared right above me.
So I was on a byway and this had a byway of its own. Now I was riding next to either completely or nearly empty beaches - incredible. In other places, such a coastline would be full of hotels, bungalows, campings - for about 35 km, there was just pure nature.
There was such a completely empty beach I picked for a swim, or at least a dip. Such an action is expensive time-wise. You have to lock your bike, find your swimming gear, walk to the beach, change, go in for a few minutes, then reserve the above, with having sand all over you (correct, there were no showers). It was still nice to be freshened up.
Through a beach called Playa del Ingles, I reached the town of Caldera, where I had dinner (a tasty piece of chicken I could have had anywhere else in the world). I started looking for a accommodation, again, prices were sky-high (e.g. in Italy, I found better deals). I decided I would not give serious dollars (pesos) for this place and had to backtrack to Playe del Ingles for a rather crappy campground - it reminded me of a camping on Lake Balaton in the Seventies.
